About: Ariel

I am a college student studying English and Communications, and since I was very young I have felt that God may be calling me to take hold of the education my loving family has provided for me, the truths God has shown me, and the freedoms America has given me to craft them into something that will bring tangible relief to the world’s many impoverished citizens and tell them about Christ. I met Matthew and Lee Dwinells while volunteering with my church at Rancho 3M in Mexico and have followed their journey to the Philippines while praying that I might find some way to help them. After a few failed attempts to obtain grants, my friends and family were very generous and donated money so that I could go serve at the orphanage. I received encouragement and help from various professors, and Dr. G very kindly created this website for me to update while I am there. I am excited to see how God blesses the faith and support of the many people who have helped launch my trip. I pray that even just a few people will gain a better understanding of life in the Philippines and that through this endeavor the children at the orphanage will grow physically and spiritually. My upcoming adventure is a great unknown to me, but I’m sure God will use it for good. “For the Lord your God is God of gods and Lord of lords, the great, the mighty, and the awesome God, who is not partial and takes no bribe. He executes justice for the fatherless and the widow, and loves the sojourner, giving him food and clothing,” Deuteronomy 10: 17-18.

Orphanage: Sleeping and Bathing

The biggest size house Matthew and Lee can afford to rent out with their limited (and almost non-existent) funding is really much too small to accommodate 30 kids.  Imagine having 15 kids share a single bathroom.  Matthew and Lee are currently paying $230 (U.S.) a month on rent, but if they were able to...

Traveling Through the Streets

Traveling through Cebu is definitely an interesting experience which many people would find very, very unpleasant. Almost as soon as I got in the bus, Lee handed me a rag to cover my nose and mouth. I do not have nearly as strong a nose as some people,...

Meeting the Kids

The kids seemed really excited to see me.  They’re really sweet.  The things they kept saying to me when I first arrived were really funny.  So many of the girls kept saying, “You’re so beautiful.”  And, a couple of them kept telling me I look like a Barbie. ...

Chasing the Sun

Saturday morning I decided to chase the sun. I missed Saturday night entirely, persistently following our brightest light through all twelve time zones. As the clocks at home (and in my mind) ticked by hour after hour, the sun continued to blaze through my window. My trip to...

What is this website?

The purpose of missionstreetkids.org is to chronicle my five week experience serving at Street Kids Philippine Missions in order to raise awareness about the mission’s needs, the overall state of child poverty in the Philippines, and the work that is being done by God’s grace to combat the...
